School board embraces futility with proposed skinny jean ban
The question is, who are the one's looking?
Now, I understand that the dress code of a school has a lot to do with how students perform... Oh wait, no I don't. Whenever I was in school the only time it really actually mattered what you were wearing that day was whenever you were in the hallways and EVERYONE was around for you to show it off. If it did matter in class, it's because your pants were sagging below the ass or your shirt didn't follow school regulations, or even both! Other than that, the teachers had pretty good control over what went on in the classroom regarding distractions.
Administrators at one Connecticut school district have had it with students wearing skinny jeans and leggings -- and so the Meriden School Board of Education has proposed banning them and any other articles of clothing that "are too form fitting and distracting to other students." An existing dress code already prohibits clothing that would distract other students; these new rules would add "form-fitting" garments to that list and stipulate that "private body areas must not be evident or visible through clothing." But the students have an unlikely ally in this fight: teachers. They say it'll be too much work policing students and that the rule change would instill an "us versus them mentality."
Now a days it seems as if the staff only recognizes what the students are wearing rather than how the students are performing in school. "A student is making a D but I'll be damned if I let them walk in this building who those jeans hugging their body like that!" First of all, WHERE are they looking? I understand why they're looking, but obviously you're too frustrated by the girls outline of her ass to really focus on what really matters: education.
Education is slipping in America for a reason. The real issues don't get recognized and the students are too lazy to give a rats ass about what they need to get done. The one's that do get their stuff done come come out of high school with good grades, as we all know. The model students, as most people would call them. What if THEY'RE the ones wearing the skinny jeans?
This article also stated the teachers find it just as ridiculous as I do. The more you bring attention to something that isn't harmful to education, the bigger the "problem" is going to get. The problem will become a bigger issue during classes and that's all the students AND the teachers (sometimes) will be able to talk about.
Whoever is putting these administrators in charge really need to have an IQ test done.
